I was pushed to buy a cheap home fan during a heat wave, and forced to choose the least ugliest fan. Its frustrating having to buy something ugly for a brief uncomfortable time, for very little difference. Just because they are sold at hardware stores, doesn't mean that they should be designed without decor in mind.
While figuring out manufacturing options on the Ellipse Shelving System, we discovered a new process through our vendors. Similar to a lathe, but with a laser instead of a cutting bit. It slides the stock material in and out and rotates it in order to cut around the entire cross section. Discovering this really made me want to design something using this process.
This is an example of a chair and the form language that can be achieved by a single tube using this process.
Palm trees give life to a space and make it dynamic. If you could imagine replacing these plants with clunky plastic fans, it wouldn't be a great fit. Most fans are designed with complete ignorance of fashion and home decor. It should live with you, you shouldn't have to live with it.
